The Billionaire's Ultimatum: Vassil Bozhkov Reignites the War Over Levski Sofia

Overview

Gemini said The ongoing saga surrounding Bulgarian football and corporate-political influence has taken yet another explosive turn. Controversial businessman and former club patron Vassil Bozhkov has stepped back into the media spotlight, delivering sharp commentary regarding his historical financial rescue of PFC Levski. In a series of pointed remarks that have sent shockwaves through Bulgarian sports and media circles, Bozhkov made it clear that his ongoing financial claims are far from settled, reigniting a bitter feud that many thought was cooling down. Topsport "I Saved the Club": The Core Dispute At the heart of Bozhkov’s latest statements is a narrative of redemption versus betrayal. According to the former club backer, his past financial injections were the literal lifeline that kept Levski afloat during its darkest hours. "When I was giving tens of millions to Levski, there was no problem," Bozhkov noted, highlighting what he perceives as severe ingratitude from the current establishment. He asserted that he possesses the legal leverage to press for millions in unblocked receivables, stressing that he could have easily pushed the historic club into bankruptcy prior to transitioning ownership, but consciously chose not to. A Cold War of Omissions and Egos Beyond the balance sheets, Bozhkov’s recent commentary took a personal turn, targeting former majority owner Nasko Sirakov over a lack of basic communication and respect. Labeling the current dynamic as a product of changed fortunes and inflated egos, Bozhkov's public venting underscores the deep personal animosities that often dictate the fate of legacy sports institutions in Eastern Europe. Topsport As legal teams and club management attempt to distance themselves from these fresh financial demands, the tension leaves fans caught in the middle of a high-stakes psychological and monetary chess match. Whether this war of words will escalate into formal legal warfare or fizzle out as posturing remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the shadow of Vassil Bozhkov over Bulgarian football refuses to lift.
